Apple Confirms iPhone Duo Screen Cracking Issue After Launch
Apple has acknowledged an inner display problem affecting some iPhone Duo units, following reports of screens cracking within hours or days of the foldable smartphone's release.
The iPhone Duo launched on October 23, 2026, marking Apple's first entry into the foldable smartphone market. However, several early customers have reported damage appearing along the inner screen's central folding area during normal use.
Some owners described unusual resistance while unfolding their devices, followed by a cracking sound and visible display damage. Others reported bright vertical or horizontal lines, even when the outer screen continued working normally.
In a statement provided to 9to5Mac, Apple confirmed awareness of the issue, describing it as affecting a small number of devices.
The company advised customers experiencing inner display problems to contact AppleCare for a replacement.
Bloomberg independently documented complaints from more than half a dozen customers, including users whose devices developed cracks shortly after purchase.
Repair specialists at iFixit have also examined the phone's internal hinge structure. Their analysis identified several possible mechanical stress points near the folding display, although the precise cause has not been established.
Apple has not announced a recall or disclosed how many devices are affected. It also has not confirmed whether the failures result from a manufacturing defect, hinge malfunction, or another hardware issue.
The reports raise early durability concerns for Apple's first foldable iPhone, but there is currently no evidence that the problem affects most units.
