Arkane Lyon Faces November 13 Deadline as 217 Jobs at Risk

Arkane Lyon, the studio behind Dishonored and Deathloop, faces a critical November 13 deadline as Microsoft considers closing the French developer, potentially putting 217 jobs at risk and leaving the future of Marvel’s Blade uncertain.

A new investigation published by French newspaper Le Monde on October 23 reveals that employees were informed of Microsoft's proposed closure on July 16, following a broader restructuring of its Xbox business.

The situation is supported by a July 24 agreement between Arkane Studios and employee representatives, which explicitly outlines a proposal to permanently cease operations and dismiss the company's workforce for economic reasons.

Under the agreement, consultations with the studio's Social and Economic Committee are scheduled to conclude on November 13. However, that date does not automatically mean Arkane will close, as discussions over a potential acquisition could continue.

Microsoft is actively seeking a partner to support the studio's future development and help bring its current project to market. The company told Le Monde that it continues to explore options but declined to confirm or deny the proposed closure.

Employee representatives have requested more time to negotiate and identify potential buyers. They also dispute the economic justification for shutting down the studio, arguing that Arkane remains a viable developer.

The uncertainty extends to Marvel’s Blade, the third-person action-adventure game announced at The Game Awards in December 2023. Development remains underway, although the studio's future could directly affect the project.

Neither Microsoft nor Bethesda has officially announced the cancellation of Marvel’s Blade, and no final decision regarding Arkane Lyon's closure has been confirmed.
