Astro Bot Sales Reach 4.7 Million Copies After Two Years

Astro Bot has sold an estimated 4.7 million copies worldwide, generating approximately $291 million in revenue more than two years after its PlayStation 5 debut, according to new figures from Alinea Analytics.

The estimates come from market analyst Rhys Elliott's latest report on previous Game of the Year winners, which examines the long-term commercial performance of several award-winning games.

Released on September 6, 2024, Astro Bot won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024 and has continued attracting buyers well beyond its launch period.

One particularly notable finding is the game's unusually strong physical sales. Alinea estimates that 46.6% of all copies sold were physical editions, a significantly higher proportion than most modern releases.

Elliott attributes this partly to Astro Bot's family-friendly appeal, with boxed copies often purchased as gifts, alongside its collectible value among longtime PlayStation fans.

Sales have also remained consistent throughout 2026. According to the report, Astro Bot has sold approximately one million additional copies this year, generating around $60 million in revenue.

The game continues to sell more than 100,000 copies per month, suggesting sustained demand rather than a short-lived launch surge.

Alinea's player data also reveals a strong connection with Astro's Playroom, the free game preinstalled on PS5 consoles. Between 20% and 30% of active Astro Bot players also played Astro's Playroom during individual months of 2026.

However, the 4.7 million sales figure and $291 million revenue estimate have not been officially confirmed by Sony or developer Team Asobi.
