Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts PC Port Adds Online Multiplayer
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is running on Windows and Linux through reNut, an unofficial PC recompilation of Rare's 2008 Xbox 360 adventure that adds online multiplayer, modern graphics options, and mod support.
Developed by masterspike52 and contributors, reNut uses the ReXGlue SDK to translate the game's original PowerPC code for PC execution. Its newer renderer handles the game's Direct3D functions natively and incorporates recompiled shaders, replacing the earlier emulated graphics pipeline.
According to the developer's official GitHub repository, the project supports 4K output, widescreen displays, enhanced shadows, anisotropic filtering, and custom vehicle parts.
Online play uses Epic Online Services to connect players without an active Xbox Live subscription. However, matchmaking remains untested, and online leaderboards are unsupported.
The project has received several updates in October 2026. Beta 9 introduced support for downloadable content and Title Update 3, while Beta 11 added options to expand vehicle-building limits from 250 to 2,048 parts.
The latest Beta 12 release, published October 26, fixes a vehicle-speed problem in Showdown Town. It also restores an unused remote-control vehicle part and introduces custom music playback through the in-game radio.
Modding support includes compatible world-editor patches, texture replacement on Windows, and additional graphics settings.
Linux builds are available, although compatibility remains limited. The developer has identified problems with AMD graphics hardware, while texture replacement is currently unavailable on Linux.
reNut requires legally obtained files from the US Xbox 360 release. It is an unofficial community project unaffiliated with Rare or Microsoft.
