BLACK (2006) Gets Unofficial PC Port With 4K and 120 FPS

BLACK, the classic first-person shooter developed by Criterion Games and published by Electronic Arts in 2006, has received an unofficial native PC port featuring modern graphics options and improved controls.

The community-developed project, known as BLACK-XBERecomp, uses static recompilation to bring the original Xbox version of the game to Windows PCs without traditional console emulation.

According to the project's official GitHub repository, the port supports 4K resolution and higher, customizable frame rates including 120 FPS, and full keyboard and mouse controls.

Players can also adjust the field of view, enable HDR10 on compatible displays, and use modern graphics features such as multisample anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, and ambient occlusion.

Additional settings include increased draw distances, customizable rendering resolution, V-Sync, and controller support.

Unlike the original Xbox release, which was limited to 30 FPS, the unofficial PC version allows players to unlock the frame rate, although actual performance depends on their hardware.

The project also offers improved compatibility with widescreen displays, making the 2006 shooter more suitable for modern monitors.

BLACK originally launched for the first Xbox and PlayStation 2, earning recognition for its detailed environments, cinematic presentation, and distinctive sound design.

The new port is not affiliated with Electronic Arts or Criterion Games. Players must provide files from their own legally acquired copy of the original game, as the project does not distribute copyrighted game assets.

The BLACK-XBERecomp project is available through GitHub, where players can find installation instructions and technical requirements.
