BLACK Android Port Released With Native Vulkan Support

BLACK, the classic first-person shooter originally released for PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2006, is now playable on Android through an unofficial native port developed by RanggaCasper.

The project brings the original Xbox version to Android devices using static recompilation, converting the game's x86 code into ARM64-compatible code without requiring an Xbox emulator.

According to the official BLACK Android GitHub repository, the port uses XboxXBE-Recomp to translate the original executable into C++, while Vulkan handles graphics rendering and SDL3 manages input and audio.

The Android version includes customizable touchscreen controls, gyroscope aiming, external controller support with vibration, and mouse and keyboard compatibility.

Players can also adjust rendering resolution, field of view, texture filtering, and draw distance. An unlocked frame rate option removes the original Xbox version's 30 FPS limit, although actual performance depends on the device.

The latest update, BLACK Android v1.7.0, released on October 24, introduces dynamic resolution support and fixes problems affecting touchscreen movement and menu scrolling.

Earlier updates also improved graphics compatibility on Mali GPUs and introduced additional visual settings, including HDR, anti-aliasing, bloom, and fog controls.

The port requires Android 10 or newer, an ARM64 processor, a GPU supporting Vulkan 1.1, at least 4GB of RAM, and approximately 2GB of available storage.

The downloadable APK does not include copyrighted game files. Players must supply assets from a legally acquired Xbox copy of BLACK.

This is an independent fan-made project and is not affiliated with Criterion Games or Electronic Arts.
