Bloodborne PC Project Faces Criticism Over Alleged AI-Assisted Development
A fan-made project aiming to make Bloodborne playable on PC with multiplayer support has sparked criticism among some FromSoftware fans over its reported use of artificial intelligence during development.
The project involves bbhost and The Hunter's Dream, which aim to expand access to Bloodborne on Windows and Linux. However, discussions about the use of Claude AI in the development process have divided parts of the community.
Bloodborne PC Project Restores Multiplayer Features
According to IXBT Games, The Hunter's Dream is a custom multiplayer server created by reverse-engineering Bloodborne's network protocols.
The project supports online features such as player messages, bloodstains, wandering ghosts, cooperative gameplay, and invasions. It also provides online connectivity for players using the shadPS4 PlayStation 4 emulator.
While bbhost and shadPS4 users can share certain asynchronous multiplayer features, cooperative sessions and invasions are restricted to players using the same client.
AI Development Claims Spark Debate Among Fans
The controversy centers on reports that Claude AI was used extensively in the development of bbhost, with some community members also questioning whether similar tools were involved in The Hunter's Dream.
Several Reddit users criticized the approach, expressing concerns about code quality and the reliability of AI-assisted development. Others defended the project, arguing that its functionality matters more than the tools used to create it.
The debate comes as Bloodborne fans continue searching for ways to experience FromSoftware's action RPG on PC without an official release from Sony.
Although community projects have made considerable progress, neither bbhost nor The Hunter's Dream represents an official Bloodborne PC port.
