Bully Remake in Unreal Engine 5 Adds AI-Powered NPC Conversations

A fan-made Bully Remake is being developed using Unreal Engine 5.8, bringing Rockstar Games' classic school-based adventure to a modern engine with AI-powered NPC conversations and updated visuals.

The project, created by independent developer oh-ashen-one, aims to recreate Bully: Scholarship Edition while introducing features that were not available in the original game.

According to the developer's official GitHub repository, the current build includes portions of Bullworth Academy, character movement, basic combat, and an early version of the game's opening missions.

One of the most notable additions is an AI conversation system that allows players to interact with NPCs using text or voice input. Characters can respond based on their individual personalities and remember previous conversations through a memory system.

The developer uses language models alongside Fish Audio for character voices and whisper.cpp for speech recognition, allowing conversations to extend beyond traditional scripted dialogue options.

The project has also demonstrated gameplay running at 1080p and approximately 45 FPS on Mac hardware. However, this performance figure comes from the developer and should not be considered an independently verified benchmark.

Despite its ambitions, the Bully Remake remains an unfinished, non-commercial fan project. Only selected areas and gameplay systems have been implemented, with no confirmed release date for a complete version.

The developer also emphasizes that the GitHub repository contains original code rather than copyrighted Rockstar assets. Users must own a legitimate PC copy of Bully: Scholarship Edition to import the required game files.

Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive are not officially involved in the project.
