Call of Duty Franchise Surpasses $40 Billion in Revenue

The Call of Duty franchise has generated $40 billion in lifetime revenue, according to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, marking a major commercial milestone following the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

Sharma announced the figure on October 26, 2026, three days after Modern Warfare 4 launched worldwide. Her statement highlighted the franchise's 24-year history and congratulated Activision's development teams and players.

In a statement published through her official X account, Sharma described the achievement as a significant milestone while also drawing attention to the positive critical reception of the latest installment.

The $40 billion figure represents cumulative revenue across the Call of Duty franchise, rather than earnings generated by Modern Warfare 4 alone. Microsoft has not disclosed how much the new release contributed to that total.

The announcement follows earlier financial milestones. Activision reported that Call of Duty had generated more than $30 billion in lifetime revenue by 2022, reflecting the franchise's continued commercial growth across multiple releases.

Modern Warfare 4 launched on October 23 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The Infinity Ward-developed game includes a new campaign, competitive multiplayer, and the returning DMZ extraction mode.

Although Sharma highlighted the game's reception, neither Microsoft nor Activision has published detailed launch-weekend sales figures for Modern Warfare 4.

That distinction matters because the franchise-wide revenue milestone cannot be used to determine how successfully the latest game performed during its opening days.

The achievement nevertheless demonstrates Call of Duty's long-term commercial scale, nearly a quarter-century after the original game debuted in 2003.
