Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Developers Won't Guarantee Long-Term DMZ Support

Infinity Ward has addressed concerns about the future of DMZ in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, explaining that it is too early to make firm commitments about the mode's long-term support.

The extraction-based experience is returning in the upcoming installment, but some players are concerned that Activision could eventually reduce support, as happened with the original DMZ mode introduced in Modern Warfare 2.

During a Reddit question-and-answer session, members of the development team discussed their plans for the mode and what players should expect after launch.

According to GamingBolt, Infinity Ward has been developing the new DMZ experience for several years and is preparing additional content for its post-launch period.

The studio confirmed that it has plans to support and expand DMZ, with early content updates already undergoing testing.

However, the developers emphasized that future decisions will depend on player feedback and how the community responds once the mode becomes available.

This approach leaves the possibility of continued updates open without establishing a specific timeline for how many years DMZ will receive support.

The original DMZ mode gained a dedicated audience through its combination of exploration, objectives, and extraction mechanics, but its development eventually shifted away from regular content updates.

Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Players who purchase the game will reportedly receive early campaign access on October 16, followed by access to the new DMZ experience on October 20.
