Deadlock Breaks Steam Player Record After Major Update

Valve's Deadlock has reached a new milestone on Steam, recording more than 262,000 concurrent players following the release of its major City Never Sleeps update.

The third-person shooter and MOBA hybrid continues to attract significant attention despite remaining in an invitation-only testing phase, with no confirmed release date for its full version.

According to Insider Gaming, Deadlock reached a peak of 262,145 concurrent players on Steam, setting a new record for the game.

The impressive increase in player activity followed the arrival of City Never Sleeps, described as the largest update in Deadlock's history. The update introduces significant gameplay changes, redesigned environments, and six additional heroes being gradually added to the roster.

Although access to Deadlock remains restricted to players who receive invitations, its growing community continues to demonstrate strong interest in Valve's upcoming multiplayer title.

City Never Sleeps Introduces Major Gameplay Changes

The City Never Sleeps update introduces several changes designed to improve gameplay and expand the strategic options available to players.

Among the most notable additions is a redesigned map featuring new environmental elements, including steam vents that can help players conceal their movements and recover health.

The update also revises neutral creatures known as Haunts, introduces new types of interactive objects, and changes how certain upgrades and resources work during matches.

Other major additions and improvements include:

  • Map redesign: Updated environments featuring steam vents that provide concealment and health regeneration.
  • Haunt improvements: Changes to neutral creatures, including the introduction of new variants.
  • Tough Crates: New durable containers that add another interactive element to the battlefield.
  • Healing items: Additional consumables that players can discover during matches.
  • Buff Containers: A replacement for the previous statue system, offering upgrades related to movement speed and resistance.
  • The Broker and Corrupted Items: New gameplay elements that expand the available strategic options.
  • User interface improvements: Redesigned sections of the in-game store, event feed, and other interface elements.

These changes aim to make matches more dynamic while providing additional opportunities for players to experiment with different strategies.

Six New Heroes Join the Deadlock Roster

Alongside the gameplay improvements, Valve is expanding Deadlock's character roster with six new heroes.

The announced additions are Nurse Harrow, Rat King, Solomon, Deadman Danny, Baba, and Violet.

Rather than introducing all six characters simultaneously, the developers are gradually making them available as part of the update.

Each addition is expected to offer new possibilities for team compositions and combat strategies, further expanding the variety of gameplay experiences.

With its combination of third-person shooting and MOBA mechanics, Deadlock continues to establish its own identity within the competitive multiplayer genre.

The latest player milestone also highlights the strong interest surrounding the project, even before its official full release.

As Valve continues developing the game, Deadlock could become another important multiplayer title in the company's portfolio alongside established franchises such as Dota 2 and Counter-Strike.
