Directive 8020 Online Multiplayer Launches October 19 With Up to Five Players
Supermassive Games has confirmed that Directive 8020 will receive its long-awaited online multiplayer mode on October 19, 2026, allowing players to experience the sci-fi horror adventure together over the internet.
The free update is scheduled to launch at 2 PM UTC, expanding the game's existing multiplayer options beyond its local Movie Night mode.
Directive 8020 originally launched on May 12 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Although the game supported local multiplayer for up to five participants at release, online functionality was delayed until a later update.
The upcoming mode will allow players to share the experience remotely, making decisions that influence the fate of the Cassiopeia crew as they confront an alien threat capable of imitating humans.
Unlike local Movie Night sessions, where participants share a screen and pass a controller between turns, online multiplayer will allow players to participate from separate locations.
The game also features Turning Points, a branching story system that lets players revisit important decisions and explore alternative outcomes. This can help players change the consequences of earlier choices, including the deaths of crew members.
For those who prefer permanent consequences, the game's Survivor mode removes the ability to rewind decisions.
Supermassive Games confirmed the October 19 release date through the official Dark Pictures social media account on October 12. Additional details about the online multiplayer experience are expected closer to launch.
Directive 8020 is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
