Disco Elysium Developers Reveal New RPG Red Rooster
Summer Eternal, a studio founded by former Disco Elysium developers, has officially unveiled Red Rooster, a new role-playing game combining narrative-driven storytelling with physics-based gameplay.
The studio was established in October 2024 by former ZA/UM developers, including Disco Elysium writer Argo Tuulik and narrative designer Dora Klindžić.
According to Gematsu, Red Rooster follows Redrick Roost, a white-collar prisoner who becomes involved in an investigation into a series of suspicious fires.
Working alongside a mathematician struggling with opioid dependency, Redrick investigates incidents seemingly connected to his brother, the city's fire chief.
The story takes place in Arta-Tantor, a fictional island city shaped by political conflicts, alternative history, and science-fiction elements.
Unlike Disco Elysium's largely static environments, Red Rooster aims to offer a fully interactive 3D world where players can move, manipulate, and burn objects to influence their surroundings.
The game is being developed using Unreal Engine, with dynamic camera movement and physics simulation playing central roles in its design.
Another notable feature is The Coop, a psychological system in which different versions of Redrick represent his competing motivations and personality traits.
Summer Eternal revealed the project alongside a 500-page physical anthology containing concept art, development materials, and discussions about the studio's creative direction.
The developers have also confirmed that an internal playable technical demo exists, although the project remains in early development.
Red Rooster is planned for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. No release date has been announced.
