DroidDeck Runs Steam PC Games on Android Without Streaming
A free, open-source application called DroidDeck is making it possible to play Steam PC games directly on compatible Android devices without cloud streaming, a separate computer, or root access.
The project runs Valve's ARM64 Steam client in Big Picture mode, providing an interface similar to the Steam Deck. Windows games operate through Proton ARM64, while FEX translates x86 instructions for ARM-based processors.
YouTuber ETA Prime recently demonstrated the application on the Nubia RedMagic 11 Pro, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and 16GB of RAM.
During testing, Cyberpunk 2077 reportedly averaged around 60 FPS at 720p with medium graphics settings. Skyrim Special Edition achieved similar results, while Left 4 Dead 2 reached its configured 120 FPS limit at 720p using high settings.
Ghost of Tsushima averaged approximately 48 FPS at 720p on medium settings, increasing to around 60 FPS with frame generation enabled. Hogwarts Legacy proved more demanding, struggling to maintain 30 FPS even with reduced graphics settings.
DroidDeck also supports Steam Input, graphics upscaling technologies, performance monitoring, and GPU driver management. Users can access their Steam libraries and download games directly to their devices. Additional stores, including GOG, Epic Games, and Amazon Games, are supported through integration features.
According to the project's official GitHub repository, DroidDeck requires Android 9 or newer and primarily supports devices equipped with Adreno 730 or newer graphics processors. Adreno 6xx support remains experimental, while Mali, Xclipse, PowerVR, and Adreno 710 GPUs are unsupported.
The application is still under active development, and compatibility varies considerably between devices and games. DroidDeck is an independent project and is not officially affiliated with Valve.
