EA Announces Project Gridiron, an Open-World Football Game

Electronic Arts has officially announced Project Gridiron, a new open-world American football game being developed by its EA Sports team. The upcoming project will focus on social interactions, offering a different approach to the publisher's established football experiences.

The announcement was included in EA's official statement outlining the company's future plans, published on October 21, 2026.

EA described Project Gridiron as a brand-new, social-first open-world experience being developed by its American football team. The publisher also confirmed that additional information about the project will be shared over the coming months.

Unlike traditional American football games built around scheduled matches and established sports modes, Project Gridiron is being designed with an open-world structure. However, EA has not explained how players will explore its environment or interact with one another.

The company has also not confirmed whether the project will feature licensed NFL teams, character customization, online multiplayer activities, or a story-driven campaign.

Project Gridiron was announced alongside plans to revive the Fight Night boxing franchise, which has entered pre-production with support from EA's simulation fighting team.

The new football project joins an existing EA Sports portfolio that includes Madden NFL and EA Sports College Football. EA has not indicated that Project Gridiron will replace either franchise.

A release date, supported platforms, and gameplay footage have yet to be announced. EA expects to reveal more details about its upcoming sports projects in the months ahead.
