EA Reportedly Working on Wing Commander 3 Remaster
Electronic Arts is reportedly preparing a remastered version of Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger after the discovery of hundreds of original video tapes containing cinematic footage from the classic space combat game.
According to PC Gamer, details shared at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo suggest that the project could be released under the title Wing Commander 3: Heart of the Tiger – 30th Anniversary Edition.
EA producer Jim Vessella reportedly discovered approximately 600 original video tapes while digitizing the company's archives. The footage includes cinematic sequences featuring actors such as Mark Hamill and John Rhys-Davies.
The discovery could allow developers to restore the game's live-action scenes using higher-quality source material rather than relying on the compressed footage included in the original release.
The reported remaster is also expected to introduce 60 FPS gameplay, full controller support, and improvements inspired by community-created modifications.
According to the report, the updated version is planned for release through Steam, GOG, and the EA app, although an official release date has not been announced.
Originally released in 1994, Wing Commander 3 became known for combining space combat with cinematic storytelling and performances from recognizable Hollywood actors.
If the project moves forward as reported, the remaster could introduce the classic game to a new generation while preserving its original cinematic presentation.
