EA Sports Cricket 07 Now Playable in Browser With Multiplayer

EA Sports Cricket 07, the classic 2006 PC cricket game, is now playable directly in modern web browsers through an unofficial fan-made port featuring online multiplayer and controller support.

Developer Dhaiwat Pandya recreated the game's original Windows functionality using static recompilation, allowing the game to run locally inside a browser rather than relying on cloud gaming or traditional PC emulation.

The project is available through the official Cricket 07 browser website, where players can choose between solo matches against the computer and online 1v1 multiplayer sessions.

Online matches use private room codes, allowing friends to connect remotely. Both keyboard controls and modern game controllers are supported, alongside fullscreen gameplay.

According to the developer's GitHub repository, the project translates 31,547 functions and approximately 1.3 million original x86 instructions into C code before compiling them into WebAssembly.

The game's original Direct3D 8 graphics system has also been adapted to WebGPU, while its audio and input systems have been rebuilt for modern browsers.

Players can choose between Regular and Lite versions, with the latter reducing the amount of audio content required.

Although no traditional installation is necessary, the browser still needs to load game assets, which can require substantial storage and an initial download.

The developer released the project's source code on October 22, allowing other programmers to study the technology and contribute improvements.

However, some players have reported loading failures, graphical issues, and multiplayer lag. Performance depends on browser compatibility, hardware, and network conditions.

The project is unofficial and is not affiliated with Electronic Arts. Its public source code does not include copyrighted game files.
