Epic Games Launches Faster Launcher With Linux Support

Epic Games Launches Faster Launcher With Linux Support

Epic Games has released a preview of its redesigned Epic Games Launcher, introducing faster performance, lower system resource usage, and official Linux support for the first time.

The new launcher is available for testing on Windows, macOS, and supported Linux distributions, with Epic aiming to address long-standing complaints about the speed and responsiveness of its existing software.

According to the official Epic Games announcement, the redesigned application offers faster startup times, smoother navigation between the store and game library, and reduced background resource consumption.

The interface also introduces dedicated game pages where users can view installation status, activity, and launch options.

Players can connect their PC game libraries, organize collections, switch between grid and list views, and customize the top navigation bar with frequently used games and applications.

Epic has improved the download manager as well, allowing users to monitor download speeds, disk read and write activity, and the status of queued or failed downloads.

Another addition is integrated party functionality and voice chat, connecting friends across Fortnite, the Epic Games Store, and the Epic Games app.

Linux support represents one of the most significant changes. Epic confirmed that it is rebuilding Easy Anti-Cheat to improve compatibility with Linux distributions and eventually bring Fortnite to the platform.

However, Fortnite is not yet officially playable on Linux through the new launcher, and Epic has not announced a release date for that functionality.

The redesigned launcher remains in preview, meaning some features are still limited and technical issues may occur. Epic plans to introduce further improvements before the full release.
