Final Fantasy VII Revelation Expands Tifa's Story and Midgar
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will explore more of Tifa Lockhart's past through an expanded piano minigame, while also allowing players to revisit a significantly changed version of Midgar in the final chapter of Square Enix's remake trilogy.
Game director Naoki Hamaguchi recently discussed the returning city and its new exploration opportunities during Paris Games Week 2026, revealing that players will be able to investigate previously inaccessible areas beneath Midgar.
According to an original presentation report from Linternaute, a major fissure has opened in the city, creating a route into its lower districts. The changes will offer a different perspective on a location that dominated the first Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Hamaguchi also confirmed that the piano minigame introduced in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will return with a greater narrative purpose.
Playing through its musical sequences will unlock memories involving Tifa and provide additional insight into her character and relationships. Players who prefer not to participate in the minigame will still be able to experience the associated story scenes.
The expanded music system also introduces additional instruments, building on the original piano mechanics rather than simply repeating the previous game's activities.
However, these revelations do not establish that Tifa will become the game's central protagonist or that the entire narrative will focus primarily on her.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The game will conclude the storyline that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake in 2020 and continued through Rebirth in 2024.
