Forgotten Pokémon Cards Sell for $2 Million in UK Auction
A retired British man has become a millionaire after his forgotten Pokémon card collection sold for £1.56 million, approximately $2.1 million, at an auction in the United Kingdom.
The collection had been stored in the attic of his home in Woking, Surrey, for around 15 years before its remarkable value was discovered.
The auction took place on October 21, 2026, at Ewbank's Auctioneers, attracting collectors and investors from around the world.
According to the official Ewbank's auction listing, a complete Pokémon Legendary Collection Master Set sold for £130,000, including buyer's fees.
The set featured 110 standard cards, 110 reverse holographic cards, four additional Box Toppers, and a rare Charizard card in near-mint condition.
The anonymous seller began collecting Pokémon cards in the late 1990s after his son developed an interest in trading them at school.
He purchased complete sets through eBay, including collections from a seller in Malaysia, believing they might become valuable investments.
After his son lost interest, the cards remained untouched for years.
The man eventually contacted auction specialists after reading about another rare Pokémon card selling for thousands of pounds.
Ewbank's discovered that he owned 42 complete sets, of which 41 were offered for auction.
One collection originally purchased for approximately £300 eventually sold for £75,000 before buyer's fees.
The auction significantly exceeded its original valuation of around £250,000, becoming the most successful sale in Ewbank's history.
The result highlights the extraordinary demand for rare Pokémon trading cards, particularly complete vintage collections preserved in excellent condition.
