Former Dying Light Director Wants to Find the Next Kojima
Former Dying Light franchise director Tymon Smektała has revealed his ambition to discover the next major creative talent in horror gaming, suggesting that an independent developer supported by Bloober Team could eventually become the next Hideo Kojima.
After spending 13 years at Techland, Smektała joined Bloober Team's Broken Mirror Games division as executive director, where he now focuses on identifying promising horror projects and supporting independent studios.
Speaking in a recent interview with GamesRadar+, Smektała explained that his goal is to discover developers with strong creative visions, even if they are currently working on smaller projects with limited resources.
He believes that providing these creators with development support, industry experience, and access to Bloober Team's expertise could help them grow into influential figures within the gaming industry.
Smektała specifically mentioned Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding, as an example of the kind of creative talent he hopes to discover.
His ambitions extend beyond traditional horror games. Broken Mirror Games is particularly interested in unusual concepts that introduce new ideas to the genre, drawing inspiration from films such as Backrooms, Obsession, and Weapons.
Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno also emphasized that memorable horror experiences should explore deeper themes and reflect the fears and concerns of society rather than focusing solely on entertainment.
According to an official Bloober Team corporate update, Smektała is responsible for the strategy and project selection of Broken Mirror Games.
The division is already involved in several upcoming horror projects, including Saw: Genesis, an asymmetrical multiplayer experience, and Onyx: The Dark Grip, a horror title being developed exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2.
Smektała hopes these projects will help establish Broken Mirror Games as a platform for the next generation of horror developers.
