Gears of War: E-Day Tops Xbox Player Charts Despite Low Sales
Gears of War: E-Day has recorded one of the strongest Xbox launches of 2026, reaching the top of the platform's weekly player activity chart despite relatively modest sales estimates.
According to TrueAchievements, the game ranked first among the most-played Xbox titles for the week ending October 12, surpassing Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox, and Call of Duty.
The rankings are based on gameplay data collected from more than 3.1 million active Xbox accounts rather than official Microsoft player totals.
E-Day also achieved the second-largest Xbox Game Pass debut of 2026, behind Forza Horizon 6. Its launch attracted 8.6% more Xbox players than Halo: Campaign Evolved, although it reached only 67.3% of Forza Horizon 6's debut audience.
The strong engagement figures contrast with estimates from Alinea Analytics, which suggest that Gears of War: E-Day sold approximately 230,000 copies across Xbox and Steam during its initial launch period.
Alinea also estimates that around 1.7 million players accessed the game through Game Pass, highlighting the subscription service's importance to its early audience.
However, player activity and direct sales measure different aspects of a game's performance. A large Game Pass audience does not necessarily indicate how many players would have purchased E-Day at full price.
The results demonstrate the game's strong initial reach on Xbox, but they do not establish whether its subscription-driven launch will ultimately prove financially successful.
Developed by The Coalition, Gears of War: E-Day launched on October 6, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
