Gears of War: E-Day Tops Xbox Sales Charts Worldwide

Gears of War: E-Day has climbed to the top of Xbox's digital sales charts in several markets, including the United States and the United Kingdom, following its release earlier this month.

The latest installment in Microsoft's long-running franchise has also recorded the second-largest Xbox launch of 2026, according to player activity data reported by Windows Central.

The game reportedly attracted 8.6% more players at launch than Halo: Campaign Evolved, although its opening audience was considerably smaller than that of Forza Horizon 6.

Separate estimates from Alinea Analytics provide a closer look at the game's commercial performance.

According to Pure Xbox, Gears of War: E-Day sold approximately 230,000 copies during its initial launch period.

Steam accounted for an estimated 168,000 copies, while around 62,000 were purchased through Xbox's console and PC storefronts.

However, direct purchases represent only part of the game's audience. Alinea Analytics estimates that approximately 1.7 million players accessed Gears of War: E-Day through Xbox Game Pass.

Of those players, around 722,000 reportedly purchased the $30 Premium Upgrade, which provided five days of early access.

These purchases contributed significantly to the game's estimated $37 million in revenue, with the Xbox ecosystem accounting for approximately $26 million.

The figures illustrate how subscription access and premium upgrades can influence the commercial performance of major Xbox releases.

Microsoft has not officially confirmed the sales, player counts, or revenue estimates reported by Alinea Analytics.
