Gran Turismo 7 Keeps Getting Free Updates as Player Base Continues to Grow
Gran Turismo 7 continues to receive free updates more than four years after its release, and producer Kazunori Yamauchi says the game's growing player base is the main reason behind Polyphony Digital's ongoing support.
The PlayStation racing simulator has maintained stronger sales than its developers initially expected, encouraging the studio to introduce new cars, circuits, and gameplay features.
Gran Turismo 7's Growing Player Base Drives New Content
Speaking to Traxion, Yamauchi explained that Gran Turismo 7 continues to sell well, despite the studio not anticipating such sustained success when the game launched in March 2022.
According to GamingBolt, the producer confirmed that the expanding community remains a major motivation for releasing additional content and game modes.
The Gran Turismo franchise surpassed 100 million copies sold worldwide in 2025, while Gran Turismo 7 continues to attract players through regular updates.
Spec IV Update Adds New Cars, Tracks, and Game Modes
Polyphony Digital is preparing one of Gran Turismo 7's biggest free updates, Spec IV, which will arrive in two parts.
The first part is scheduled for October 14, 2026, introducing six new cars, the Sportsland SUGO circuit, and the Car Concierge feature, allowing players to order Used and Legend cars.
The second part is planned for December and will add six more cars alongside the returning Autumn Ring circuit. Players can also expect Family Mode, Shuffle Race, and Online Drift Trial.
The update forms part of the celebrations leading up to Gran Turismo's 30th anniversary in 2027.
With new content still arriving regularly, Polyphony Digital has shown no indication that support for Gran Turismo 7 is coming to an end.
