Grandia III PC Port Adds 4K, 60 FPS and HD Textures

Grandia III has received an unofficial native PC port through static recompilation, bringing the 2005 PlayStation 2 RPG to Windows with higher resolutions, 60 FPS support, ultrawide displays, and an optional HD texture pack.

Developed by GranasSabre, the project translates the game's original PS2 MIPS code, sound driver, and VU1 geometry programs into C and C++ before compiling them for x86-64 processors.

Unlike conventional PS2 emulation, the recompiled game code runs directly on PC hardware, supported by a custom runtime that replaces console-specific graphics, audio, and memory functions.

The developer's official GitHub repository confirms support for internal resolution scaling up to eight times the original, including 4K displays.

Gameplay can run at 60 FPS during exploration and optionally in battles, with automatic fallback to 30 FPS when necessary.

Version 1.0.2, released October 26, adds native 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide support and corrects a frame-rate setting bug. Menus and battle interface elements retain their original proportions.

An optional 7.5GB texture pack enhances all 7,604 game textures at four times their original dimensions. The pack is separate from the main project and works specifically with this PC port.

Additional features include save states, skippable cutscenes, enlarged dialogue windows, graphics filters, and a complete German translation.

The port targets Windows 10 and 11, while Linux and Steam Deck compatibility is provided through Proton rather than a separate native Linux build. Steam Deck performance remains dependent on the scene and hardware configuration.

Grandia III for PC is an unofficial fan project unaffiliated with Square Enix or Game Arts. It requires legally obtained files from the original US PlayStation 2 release.
