GTA 6 Eligible for The Game Awards 2026 Game of the Year
Grand Theft Auto 6 will be eligible for The Game Awards 2026, including the Game of the Year category, provided Rockstar Games releases the title on its currently scheduled date of November 19.
According to the official rules published by The Game Awards, games must be commercially available by November 20, 2026, at 9 p.m. Pacific Time to qualify for this year's ceremony.
This gives GTA 6 a narrow window to enter the competition, with its planned launch falling just one day before the eligibility deadline.
The rules also establish a separate deadline for the Players' Voice category, which allows games released through November 30 to participate. Rockstar's upcoming open-world game would therefore meet the release requirements for both the main awards and the fan-voted category.
However, eligibility does not guarantee a nomination. The Game Awards voting jury will determine which titles receive nominations across categories such as Game of the Year, Best Game Direction, and Best Narrative.
The timing could also create challenges for reviewers and voting outlets, as GTA 6 is scheduled to arrive shortly before the awards process concludes. The Game Awards rules permit publishers to provide advance review copies to eligible voting outlets.
The Game Awards 2026 ceremony will take place on December 10 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
For now, GTA 6 remains on track to qualify for one of the industry's biggest annual award ceremonies, assuming its November 19 release date remains unchanged.
