GTA 6 Reportedly Faced Internal Creative Disagreements
Rockstar Games reportedly faced significant internal disagreements over the creative direction of Grand Theft Auto VI during its lengthy development, according to a new investigation by Bloomberg.
The report, written by journalist Jason Schreier, examines the challenges Rockstar encountered while developing one of its most ambitious open-world games.
According to the Bloomberg investigation, the development team spent considerable time determining how GTA 6 should balance realistic environments, interactive gameplay systems, and the entertainment-focused design traditionally associated with the series.
These decisions reportedly created disagreements among senior developers about the game's overall direction and the level of detail its world should offer.
One particularly demanding aspect involved creating believable non-playable characters and environments that could respond naturally to players' actions.
Rockstar also had to develop new production tools and expand its workforce to support the increasing complexity of the project.
Development director Phil Hooker acknowledged that the game continued changing even during its final months of production, illustrating how difficult it was to establish a fixed development plan.
However, the report does not establish that these disagreements caused GTA 6 to be canceled, completely restarted, or abandoned at any point.
Instead, the findings provide further insight into the creative and technical challenges behind the game's extended development cycle.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
