GTA 6 Story Could Be More Like Red Dead Redemption 2
Grand Theft Auto VI could deliver a more emotionally grounded story than GTA 5, with Rockstar Games appearing to draw inspiration from the narrative depth of Red Dead Redemption 2.
In a recent Bloomberg Businessweek report, journalist Jason Schreier suggested that the relationship between GTA 6 protagonists Jason and Lucia feels closer to the storytelling approach of Red Dead Redemption 2 than the exaggerated satire of GTA 5.
While GTA 5 focused on three protagonists whose relationships were frequently defined by conflict and dark humor, GTA 6 centers on a couple navigating a criminal world together.
The distinction could allow Rockstar to explore a more personal story without abandoning the franchise's established humor and unpredictable situations.
Rockstar development lead Rob Nelson has also discussed how the studio's experience with Red Dead Redemption 2 influenced its approach to the new game.
In a separate interview about GTA 6, Nelson explained that players who spend time exploring the world rather than rushing through missions will discover additional details and experiences.
He compared this approach to Red Dead Redemption 2, which encouraged players to revisit its world and uncover activities beyond the main storyline.
Nelson also emphasized the importance of balancing player freedom with a compelling narrative, suggesting that GTA 6 will offer more opportunities for exploration without compromising its story.
However, Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA 6 will adopt the same overall tone as Red Dead Redemption 2.
The comparison reflects early impressions and the studio's broader storytelling philosophy rather than a confirmed change in the Grand Theft Auto formula.
