GTA Liberty City Stories Gets Native PS3 Port in New Alpha

Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories has received an unofficial native PlayStation 3 port, with developer stingziz0u releasing reLCS-PS3 v1.0 alpha on October 27, 2026.

The homebrew project brings the PlayStation 2 version of Rockstar's open-world game to PS3 hardware using the reverse-engineered reLCS codebase and the open-source PSL1GHT development toolkit.

According to the official GitHub release, this is the project's first public alpha, with further fixes and updates expected.

Unlike conventional PS2 emulation, reLCS-PS3 runs native game code with a dedicated PlayStation 3 rendering backend built around the RSX graphics processor and librw.

The port renders at 720p and offers 30 FPS and 60 FPS options. The developer has adjusted vehicle handling and frame-dependent scripts to preserve their original timing at higher frame rates.

Additional graphics settings include PS2-style lighting, color filters, gamma adjustment, FXAA anti-aliasing, mipmaps, and anisotropic texture filtering up to 16×.

DualShock 3 support includes pressure-sensitive acceleration and braking, configurable camera sensitivity, vibration, and adjustable analog stick dead zones.

The project also introduces map markers for collectibles, adjustable traffic density, an MP3 radio station, and basic file-replacement mod support.

However, the developer warns that the alpha has not been tested through the entire campaign. Known problems include incorrect pedestrian voices, occasional distant building pop-in, and unusual punching behavior.

The port requires a homebrew-capable PS3 and legally obtained files from the PS2 version. No copyrighted game data is included, and the project is not affiliated with Rockstar Games, Take-Two Interactive, or Sony.
