Konami Reveals Plans for the Next Wave of Silent Hill Games

Konami is preparing to expand the Silent Hill franchise with a second and third wave of projects following the successful revival of its iconic psychological horror series.

After years of uncertainty surrounding the franchise, the company is looking to build on the positive reception of its recent releases and continue exploring new opportunities within the world of Silent Hill.

According to IGN, series producer Motoi Okamoto discussed Konami's plans in issue 1965 of the Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu. He expressed satisfaction with the performance of the franchise's recent projects and confirmed that the company is considering several additional games.

The first wave of Silent Hill's revival included the Silent Hill 2 remake, Silent Hill f, and Silent Hill: Townfall. These projects represented Konami's efforts to restore interest in the franchise through a combination of reimagined classics and new experiences.

Okamoto explained that the successful completion of the initial wave gave the development teams confidence in the future of the series. "All three titles we announced were successfully released, so we were relieved (laughs). They received a lot of praise, and we're satisfied with the results. But we can't stop here. We need to think about the second and third waves. We can't share specific details yet, but we're considering several different projects."

Reviving Silent Hill was not a straightforward process. Following the cancellation of Silent Hills, the project associated with Hideo Kojima and its playable teaser P.T., the franchise experienced a lengthy period of uncertainty.

Convincing Konami's leadership to invest in a broader revival reportedly required considerable effort. Okamoto believed that releasing only a single remake would not be enough to establish a sustainable future for Silent Hill.

He explained his concerns about the possibility of the franchise returning to inactivity: "I thought that if we only released one game, people might think the development process had been canceled again."

Rather than relying on a single project, Konami pursued multiple games to demonstrate its long-term commitment to the franchise.

The success of this approach has encouraged the company to consider additional projects, although specific titles, developers, and release schedules for the second and third waves have not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, Bloober Team, the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, has already confirmed its involvement in a remake of the original Silent Hill.

The project represents another opportunity to revisit the franchise's early history while introducing its psychological horror atmosphere to a new generation of players.

With several possibilities under consideration, Konami appears determined to maintain the momentum of Silent Hill's revival rather than allowing the franchise to disappear from the spotlight again.
