Mads Mikkelsen Reveals Why He Joined Modern Warfare 4
Mads Mikkelsen has revealed that his son's enthusiasm for Call of Duty played a major role in his decision to join Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, where the Danish actor portrays the mysterious antagonist known as The Archer.
In a recent interview with The Standard, Mikkelsen explained that Infinity Ward approached him with an ambitious vision for the game's story and characters.
The actor said the initial presentation impressed him, but his son's passion for the franchise provided an additional reason to accept the role.
Mikkelsen also acknowledged that he was not particularly familiar with Call of Duty before joining the project. His son helped introduce him to the series and its gameplay.
The actor, known for his performances in Hannibal, Casino Royale, and Death Stranding, also shared some details about his character in Modern Warfare 4.
According to Mikkelsen, The Archer has both allies and enemies throughout the story, making it difficult for players to determine which characters can be trusted.
He suggested that the antagonist would provide answers to questions that fans have been asking about the franchise for years, although he avoided revealing specific plot details.
Mikkelsen previously appeared in Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding as Clifford Unger, making Modern Warfare 4 another major video game role in his acting career.
The actor also discussed the similarities between motion capture performances and traditional film acting, highlighting how closely the two industries have become connected.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2, with campaign early access already available to eligible players.
