Mario Kart 64 3DS Port v2.0 Adds New Modes and Graphics

Mario Kart 64 has received a major update to its unofficial Nintendo 3DS port, introducing new single-player modes, redesigned graphics, and performance improvements for both original and New 3DS hardware.

Developer EstebanPdN released version 2.0 on October 23, 2026, building on Harbour Masters' SpaghettiKart project and contributions from Epic0522. The changes are detailed in the official GitHub release notes.

One of the biggest additions is Solo VS, allowing players to compete against seven computer-controlled racers. Solo Battle also introduces three CPU opponents across the original battle arenas, while Random Cups generate four-course competitions.

A new AUTO mode lets the computer drive while players switch between racers and camera views. Optional Modern Logic settings also modify CPU behavior, item usage, and certain gameplay mechanics.

The update introduces three texture modes, redesigned menus, improved character portraits, and refreshed maps for all 20 courses and battle arenas. Performance, Quality, and Custom display profiles provide additional control over the presentation.

Under the hood, version 2.0 reduces repeated texture processing, improves memory management, and addresses rendering and audio synchronization issues. Built-in Stable and Experimental update channels have also been added.

The project remains an unofficial fan-made port and requires legally obtained Mario Kart 64 game data. Its simulation runs at 30 Hz, and additional display frames are possible under suitable conditions, although sustained performance is not guaranteed on physical hardware.
