Mario Kart World Shown Running on macOS via nxnative Fork
Mario Kart World, Nintendo's Switch 2 racing game, has reportedly been demonstrated running on macOS through a modified fork of the open-source nxnative project, marking a potentially significant step in efforts to run Nintendo games natively on Apple Silicon hardware.
The demonstration was shared by Will Faust on October 27, 2026, in a video posted on X. It has since attracted attention from the Nintendo homebrew community, although the results have not been independently reproduced.
The original nxnative project, developed by seedds, takes a different approach from conventional console emulation. It adapts Nintendo Switch game code for native execution on Apple Silicon while recreating system services and translating graphics operations to Apple's Metal API.
Its existing compatibility documentation includes Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and several other original Switch titles. Mario Kart World, however, is a Nintendo Switch 2 game and is not listed among the project's officially tested titles.
That distinction makes the reported demonstration noteworthy. Running a Switch 2 title involves compatibility challenges beyond those addressed by the original Switch-focused project, and the modifications used in Faust's demonstration have not been independently verified.
Important technical details remain unclear, including the Mac model used, frame rate, rendering accuracy, controller functionality, and whether complete races can be played.
There is also no confirmed public release of the specific modified fork used in the demonstration.
For now, the footage represents an early, unverified technical demonstration rather than confirmation that Mario Kart World is fully playable on macOS. The project is unofficial and has no affiliation with Nintendo.
