Mass Effect Director Casey Hudson Reacts to BioWare Closure

Mass Effect trilogy director Casey Hudson has responded to the closure of BioWare, expressing sadness over the studio's shutdown and the cancellation of its next Mass Effect game.

Hudson shared his reaction on X on October 21, 2026, following Electronic Arts' decision to close the developer after more than three decades. His statement was documented in a report by GamesRadar+.

The former BioWare general manager said the announcement was particularly difficult for former employees, developers currently affected by the closure, and fans who had been anticipating another adventure in the Mass Effect universe.

Hudson also reflected on his early career at BioWare, expressing gratitude to studio co-founders Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka for giving him the opportunity to become part of the company's history.

Despite the closure, he believes BioWare's influence will continue through the developers who helped create its games and who remain passionate about building memorable stories, characters, and worlds.

Hudson played a central role in BioWare's history, directing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the original Mass Effect trilogy. He later returned to lead the studio before departing in December 2020.

BioWare officially confirmed its closure on October 21, alongside the cancellation of the next Mass Effect project, which had remained in early development.

The studio's history includes influential role-playing games such as Baldur's Gate, Dragon Age, and Mass Effect.

Hudson is currently associated with Arcanaut Studios and its upcoming Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic project, continuing his work on narrative-driven science-fiction games.
