Metro 2039 Physical Edition Requires an Initial Download

Metro 2039's physical edition will reportedly require an initial internet connection and additional download before players can launch the game, as not all of its content will fit on the disc.

According to a statement attributed to the official Metro social media account, players purchasing a physical copy will need to download the remaining game files and connect to the internet for initial activation.

However, the statement indicates that Metro 2039 will not require a permanent internet connection after the initial setup, allowing players to continue their adventure offline.

The requirement could disappoint fans who prefer physical editions because they can traditionally be installed and played without relying on online services.

The amount of additional data required has not yet been specified, and it remains unclear how large the initial download will be.

Publisher Deep Silver has already confirmed the game's physical Standard, Deluxe, and Collector's Editions on its official Metro 2039 website.

The publisher also clarified that physical editions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S will include a game disc, while PC physical editions will provide a download code instead.

Developed by 4A Games, Metro 2039 returns players to post-apocalyptic Moscow with a new protagonist known as The Stranger.

The upcoming installment will feature a single-player campaign focused on survival, exploration, stealth, and combat, continuing the series' atmospheric storytelling.

Metro 2039 is scheduled to launch on February 4, 2027, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Further clarification from the developer is still needed regarding the exact download requirements for physical copies.
