MihawkOS Alpha 4 Demo Shows Steam Running on PS5

A new MihawkOS Alpha 4 demonstration reportedly shows Steam Big Picture running on a jailbroken PlayStation 5, with The Binding of Isaac launched through the Windows compatibility environment.

The footage shared by the project's developer describes a transition from the PS5 home screen into Steam's controller-friendly interface, followed by gameplay running through Wine.

MihawkOS is an experimental homebrew project designed to run Windows applications on PlayStation 5 hardware without installing Microsoft's operating system.

According to the official MihawkOS GitHub repository, the project combines Wine with Proton-related technologies, including DXVK, VKD3D-Proton, and Mesa's Zink graphics translation layer.

These components help translate Windows application and graphics calls into a form that the console's custom runtime can handle.

The currently published version is Alpha 3, released on October 20, 2026. That update addressed PS5 Pro compatibility issues, improved memory handling, and restored functionality to the project's built-in browser.

Alpha 4 has not yet received a public release, but the developer's latest demonstration suggests that Steam integration is among the features being tested.

The footage should not be interpreted as confirmation that the entire Steam library works on PS5. Compatibility varies between applications, and the developer has not published verified performance figures for The Binding of Isaac in this demonstration.

MihawkOS also requires a console already capable of running homebrew. It remains an unofficial project with no affiliation to Sony, Valve, or Microsoft.

The developer says Alpha 4 is coming soon, with additional features and fixes planned.
