MihawkOS Alpha 5 Promises Steam and Windows Games on PS5
MihawkOS, an unofficial open-source project designed to run Windows applications and games on PlayStation 5, is reportedly receiving its fifth alpha update with expanded Steam integration and desktop features.
Developed by mihawk-99, the project combines a custom Wine and Proton compatibility environment with a Windows-inspired desktop interface.
According to the official MihawkOS GitHub repository, the software supports selected 32-bit and 64-bit Windows applications using DXVK, VKD3D-Proton, and other graphics compatibility components.
Its documented Alpha 4 release introduced improvements to Steam Big Picture, including smoother navigation, faster game launches, and guided Steam installation.
The software also features a Frutiger Aero-inspired desktop with a taskbar, file explorer, application shortcuts, and its own browser.
A companion WebUI allows users to transfer supported games from a computer, manage artwork, back up saves, and create individual game shortcuts on the PS5 home screen.
The setup process supports ten languages, including English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Brazilian Portuguese.
A newer social media announcement identifies Alpha 5 as the latest version, although its corresponding GitHub release notes have not yet been independently verified.
MihawkOS requires a PS5 already capable of running homebrew software. It does not install Microsoft's Windows operating system, and compatibility varies between games.
The developer also warns that anti-cheat systems and certain Windows features remain unsupported.
MihawkOS is free and open source, but it remains experimental and is not affiliated with Sony, Microsoft, or Valve.
