Minecraft Java Edition Gets NVIDIA RTX Remix Path Tracing

Minecraft Java Edition has received a new path-tracing mod from NVIDIA, bringing realistic lighting, reflections, and DLSS technology to the PC version through RTX Remix.

Released on October 23, 2026, RTX Remix for Minecraft 0.1.0 is the project's first public beta. It targets Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1 and uses the Fabric modding framework.

According to NVIDIA's official GitHub repository, the mod replaces conventional scene lighting with real-time path tracing across terrain, blocks, mobs, particles, and environmental effects.

Light can bounce between surfaces, pass through glass, and interact with materials, producing more natural shadows and reflections. Lighting also responds to weather conditions, time of day, underwater environments, and different Minecraft dimensions.

The project includes LabPBR-based materials, procedural clouds, adjustable lighting settings, and a new Copper Beacon block that produces directional illumination.

NVIDIA also provides a showcase world created by BlockWorks and a dedicated texture pack designed to demonstrate the rendering technology.

The beta requires Windows 10 or 11, Minecraft Java Edition 1.21.1, and a GeForce RTX 30-series or newer graphics card. NVIDIA recommends 16GB of system memory and requires graphics driver 616.92 or later.

RTX Remix also incorporates DLSS technologies, although supported features and performance depend on the graphics hardware and runtime configuration.

NVIDIA acknowledges that the mod remains experimental. Compatibility with other modifications is limited, and areas outside the showcase world may experience rendering problems or reduced performance.

RTX Remix for Minecraft is an NVIDIA-developed modification, not an official Minecraft update from Mojang or Microsoft.
