Minecraft Launches on Nintendo Switch 2 With Vibrant Visuals
Minecraft is now available on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the sandbox game to Nintendo's newer console with enhanced graphics through Vibrant Visuals and upgrade options for existing Switch players.
The release was announced on October 27, 2026, with Mojang confirming that players who already own Minecraft on the original Nintendo Switch can access upgrade options rather than necessarily purchasing the game again at full price.
The official Minecraft announcement details the Switch 2 release and the improvements introduced for the new hardware.
Vibrant Visuals is one of the most significant additions. The enhanced graphics mode introduces updated lighting, shadows, and atmospheric effects while preserving Minecraft's familiar block-based appearance.
The native Switch 2 version also offers improvements designed around the console's capabilities, providing an updated experience for players exploring existing worlds or starting new adventures.
Owners of the digital Nintendo Switch version are eligible for a free upgrade to the Switch 2 Standard Edition. Players with physical copies also have an upgrade path, although eligibility and redemption conditions differ.
Existing Minecraft worlds can be transferred from Nintendo Switch to Switch 2, allowing players to continue their previous creations on the newer system.
The release also brings Vibrant Visuals support to the Nintendo-exclusive Super Mario Mash-Up pack, updating its Mario-themed environments with enhanced lighting.
However, Vibrant Visuals is not supported in every gameplay configuration, including split-screen multiplayer.
Minecraft's arrival on Switch 2 expands the game's availability across Nintendo hardware while giving existing players options to carry their progress forward.
