Modern Warfare 4 Gets Best Call of Duty Steam Rating in 11 Years

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has made a strong early impression on Steam, achieving the highest SteamDB rating for a Call of Duty release since Black Ops III in 2015.

According to SteamDB, Modern Warfare 4 reached an 81.15% rating based on 899 user reviews during its campaign early access period. The initial response places it ahead of recent installments, including Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, and Modern Warfare III.

The result is particularly notable following years of mixed player feedback toward several recent Call of Duty releases.

However, the figures represent an early snapshot rather than the game's final reception. Modern Warfare 4's campaign became available on October 16 to players who digitally preordered the game, meaning most initial reviews reflect the single-player experience.

The relatively small number of reviews also means the rating could change significantly as more players gain access.

For comparison, Black Ops III currently holds a SteamDB rating of approximately 84.6%, while Black Ops Cold War and Modern Warfare (2019) are both below 78% in the figures cited by the initial report.

Modern Warfare 4's positive reception comes ahead of the release of its other major modes. Activision has confirmed that campaign early access began on October 16, while DMZ early access starts on October 20.

The full game launches on October 23, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

With multiplayer still awaiting its full release, the coming days will provide a clearer picture of how players respond to the complete Modern Warfare 4 experience.
