Modern Warfare 4 Xbox Player Count Down 32% From Black Ops 7
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has reportedly attracted 32% fewer Xbox players at launch than Black Ops 7, according to an analysis of player activity conducted by TrueAchievements.
The findings, published on October 26, 2026, suggest a weaker debut for Activision's latest shooter, although the comparison comes with significant limitations.
In its original Xbox player count analysis, TrueAchievements explains that individual Call of Duty player numbers cannot be separated precisely because Modern Warfare 4, Black Ops 7, and Warzone share the Call of Duty HQ application.
Even under its most generous estimates, Modern Warfare 4's launch activity was 17.3% below Halo: Campaign Evolved, 23.9% below Gears of War: E-Day, and 48.8% below Forza Horizon 6.
All three competing Xbox releases launched through Game Pass, while Modern Warfare 4 requires a separate purchase.
Activision confirmed that the game would not join Game Pass at launch, with subscription availability instead planned for Holiday 2027. This difference makes direct comparisons with Black Ops 7 particularly difficult.
Despite the lower activity estimates, TrueAchievements found that Modern Warfare 4's debut attracted at least 84.8% more Xbox players than EA Sports FC 27.
The figures measure estimated player engagement rather than sales. They also include activity from other Call of Duty titles, meaning the reported decline cannot be treated as an exact count of Modern Warfare 4 players.
Activision has not disclosed official launch sales or individual player totals, leaving the game's commercial performance uncertain.
