Mortal Kombat Creator Wants Street Fighter Crossover Game First
Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has responded to the Street Fighter movie cast's interest in a crossover film, suggesting that the two fighting game franchises should meet in a video game before appearing together on the big screen.
The discussion began when several Street Fighter actors expressed enthusiasm for a potential collaboration with Mortal Kombat during an interview with IGN.
Andrew Koji, who plays Ryu in the new Street Fighter film, welcomed the idea, while Noah Centineo, who portrays Ken Masters, said he would be interested in returning for another project involving the characters.
Boon responded on X on October 15 with a short message: “Game first... then movie.”
Although his response included a playful wink, it renewed discussion about a crossover between two of gaming's most recognizable fighting franchises.
This is not the first time Boon has expressed interest in bringing Street Fighter characters into Mortal Kombat. Earlier in 2026, he discussed his enthusiasm for the Capcom series and the possibility of a guest fighter.
However, such a collaboration has faced obstacles in the past. Former Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono previously confirmed that Capcom had rejected a proposal involving a Street Fighter character appearing in Mortal Kombat.
The company reportedly had concerns about whether Mortal Kombat's violent presentation would suit its characters.
For now, neither Capcom nor NetherRealm Studios has announced an official crossover game or movie.
Boon's latest comments reflect his personal interest rather than confirmation that a collaboration is in development.
