Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks PC Port Gets OpenShao 0.3.0
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks has received a major update to its unofficial native PC port, now called OpenShao, introducing a redesigned launcher, restored Survival Mode, ultrawide display support, and expanded graphics settings.
Developer OAleex released version 0.3.0 on October 25, 2026, building on the project's static recompilation of the original Xbox game for Windows and Linux.
According to the official OpenShao v0.3.0 release notes, the new launcher manages game selection, modifications, save folders, and automatic updates. Future updates can be installed directly through the launcher after users manually install version 0.3.0.
The update also restores the hidden Survival Mode, including a reconstructed Survival 5 arena whose original Xbox scene data was incomplete.
A new Konfigure Recompilation menu lets players adjust graphics, audio, display settings, and controls without relying entirely on the external launcher. Additional options are accessible while gameplay is paused.
Display support now includes 16:9, 16:10, 21:9, and 32:9 aspect ratios, with camera and interface adjustments designed to accommodate wider screens.
Controller, keyboard, and mouse remapping has been expanded, while separate text and voice language settings offer additional localization flexibility.
Graphics improvements address broken shadows, missing surfaces, and other rendering problems. Persistent shader caches also reduce repeated compilation in the Direct3D 12 renderer.
OpenShao uses XboxXBERecomp to run recompiled Xbox code natively rather than conventional console emulation. The game remains limited to 60 FPS, and some graphical issues persist.
The project is unofficial and requires players to supply their own legally obtained USA or European Xbox game assets.
