New Super Mario Bros. U PC Port Released for Windows and Mac
New Super Mario Bros. U, Nintendo's Wii U platformer, has received an unofficial native PC port supporting Windows, Linux, and macOS without requiring a traditional Wii U emulator.
Developed by the nsmbu-recomp team, the open-source project uses static recompilation to convert the original game's PowerPC instructions into native code that can run on modern computers.
According to the official GitHub repository, the port includes downloadable packages with a dedicated installer that prepares the game using files supplied by the player.
Supported platforms include Windows 10 and 11, Linux on x86-64 and ARM64 systems, and Apple Silicon Macs running macOS 14 or newer.
The port features customizable keyboard and controller controls, with support for up to four local players using separate gamepads.
Players can also access an in-game settings overlay by pressing F12, allowing them to adjust audio, controls, and other configuration options.
Save states are supported through keyboard shortcuts, while the project includes a modding system for compatible game versions.
The current compatibility documentation confirms support for the American and European releases, including version 1.3.0 and selected New Super Mario Bros. U + New Super Luigi U combination packages.
However, the Japanese release is not supported yet. Some older base-disc versions also lack mod compatibility unless the appropriate update is provided.
The installer accepts supported Wii U disc images, extracted game folders, and compatible Cemu archives, then recompiles the game locally.
Players must provide files from their own copy of New Super Mario Bros. U.
The project remains unofficial and is not affiliated with Nintendo.
