Next-Gen Xbox Project Helix Could Cost Up to $1,800

Microsoft's next-generation Xbox console, known as Project Helix, could cost between $1,200 and $1,800, according to a new report revealing internal pricing estimates for the upcoming gaming hardware.

The figures come from an October 20 Fortune report on Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, which examines Microsoft's plans for its next generation of consoles.

According to the report, the company has internally projected a consumer price between $1,200 and $1,800 for Project Helix. However, Microsoft could lower the final retail price by subsidizing part of the hardware cost.

The estimated price range is considerably higher than the launch prices of previous Xbox consoles, potentially positioning Project Helix as a premium gaming device.

Rising hardware costs are one of the challenges facing console manufacturers. Memory and storage components have become more expensive as demand from artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to affect the wider technology industry.

Microsoft has traditionally been able to sell gaming hardware at reduced margins or below production cost, generating additional revenue through games, subscriptions, and digital services.

However, the report suggests that maintaining this approach could become more difficult as Xbox faces increased competition and changing consumer spending habits.

Fortune also reports that Microsoft is targeting the holiday season of 2028 for its next-generation Xbox console.

Before then, the company reportedly plans to introduce a new Xbox handheld device during the 2027 holiday season.

Project Helix was officially introduced in March 2026 as Microsoft's next-generation gaming hardware initiative. The company has confirmed that the platform is being developed in partnership with AMD and is designed to support both Xbox and PC games.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has also discussed expanding the brand into a broader family of gaming devices rather than relying on a single console format.

Microsoft has not announced an official price or release date for Project Helix. The reported $1,200 to $1,800 range remains an internal estimate and could change before the hardware reaches consumers.
