Nintendo Switch 2 Gets First Software-Only Jailbreak
Security researcher pepsipu revealed the exploit on October 22, 2026, demonstrating its capabilities through a modified version of Mario Kart World featuring characters such as Cinnamoroll and Peter Griffin.
According to the developer's original technical report, ns2jb works on Nintendo Switch 2 firmware version 23.0.1 and uses vulnerabilities involving the SmileBASIC interpreter and system components.
The exploit allows native code execution within certain system modules, opening the door to homebrew applications, game modifications, save file backups, and further security research.
It also provides access to various hardware components through memory-mapped input and output, giving developers additional opportunities to explore the console's architecture.
However, ns2jb is not a complete Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak. It does not provide full kernel-level access or enable permanent custom firmware.
The exploit is also tethered, meaning its modifications disappear after restarting the console and must be applied again to restore access.
Pepsipu has published the ns2jb source code on GitLab, allowing other researchers to examine the project and explore its capabilities.
The discovery represents an important development for the Nintendo Switch 2 homebrew community, although its current limitations mean it should not be confused with a complete system unlock.
Nintendo has not publicly announced a response to the exploit.
