Planet Zoo 2 Breaks Steam Record With 45,000 Players

Planet Zoo 2 has surpassed the original game's all-time concurrent player record on Steam, reaching more than 45,000 players during its launch day.

Developed and published by Frontier Developments, the zoo management simulator launched on October 13, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

According to SteamDB, Planet Zoo 2 reached a peak of 45,101 concurrent players on Steam, exceeding the original game's record of fewer than 39,000 players.

The milestone was achieved within hours of release, highlighting strong early interest in the sequel.

As Insider Gaming reports, the game is also approaching one of Frontier Developments' biggest Steam records.

The original Jurassic World Evolution previously reached approximately 60,000 concurrent players, leaving Planet Zoo 2 with another milestone to pursue.

Unlike the first Planet Zoo, which initially launched exclusively on PC, the sequel arrived simultaneously on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Player counts for those console versions have not been publicly disclosed.

Planet Zoo 2 introduces several additions to the franchise, including fully aquatic animals, flying species, and customizable Wildlife Reserves.

These features expand the original game's zoo-building formula, allowing players to design more varied habitats and manage conservation-focused environments.

Although its opening Steam numbers have already surpassed the first game, it remains unclear whether Planet Zoo 2 will eventually exceed Frontier's overall concurrent player record.
