PS5 Jailbreak Gets Crux2 PS2 Emulator With 4K and 120Hz

PlayStation 5 jailbreak users can now run PlayStation 2 games through Crux2, a new unofficial port of the PCSX2 emulator featuring native PS5 execution, 4K output, and a controller-friendly interface.

Developer Press5elect released Crux2 version 1.0.0 on October 23, 2026. Unlike solutions that require a separate computer or phone to manage settings, Crux2 provides a complete Big Picture interface directly on the television.

According to the official Crux2 GitHub release, the emulator uses PCSX2's x86-64 recompilers alongside a Vulkan renderer powered by Mesa's RADV driver.

Graphics options include internal resolutions up to 12 times the original, FSR 1 upscaling, NVIDIA Image Scaling, frame generation, and 4K output at 60Hz or 120Hz. The higher refresh-rate option does not guarantee that PS2 games will run at 120 FPS.

Crux2 can load games from internal storage, USB drives, SMB and NFS network shares, and compatible disc drives. Its library offers ten display layouts, automatic cover artwork, search filters, and customizable collections.

Additional features include widescreen patches, HD texture packs, RetroAchievements, save-state management, memory card backups, and support for up to four players.

The developer reports an average of 59.2 FPS during a demanding six-minute test using a 60 FPS patch at 6x internal resolution. However, compatibility and performance across the full PS2 library remain unverified.

Crux2 requires a jailbroken PS5 running kstuff and ShadowMountPlus or another compatible homebrew launcher. Users must provide their own PS2 games and BIOS files.

The project is independent of Sony and the official PCSX2 development team.
