PS5 Now Runs Steam PC Games Locally With Playden
An unofficial project called Playden is bringing Windows PC games to jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles, allowing titles from Steam libraries to run locally without cloud streaming or remote play.
Developed by Leo Lobato, Playden uses prospero-win, a PlayStation 5 adaptation of Wine, to run Windows software directly on Sony's console hardware.
The developer's official GitHub repository explains that each supported game receives its own isolated Windows environment and a separate tile on the PS5 home screen.
Graphics compatibility relies on DXVK for Direct3D 8–11, VKD3D-Proton for Direct3D 12, and Mesa's Zink for OpenGL. These components use the console's Vulkan graphics driver.
The project reached version 0.7.1 on October 26, introducing stability and installation fixes. Its latest compatibility notes confirm that Portal, Portal 2, Half-Life 2, and Left 4 Dead 2 work with runtime kit 0.13.
Other tested titles include Cyberpunk 2077, Dead Cells, and Deep Rock Galactic, although successful tests do not necessarily establish full-game compatibility or consistent performance.
Playden can access legitimately owned Steam games through an unofficial client, while also supporting imported Windows game files. Controller support includes DualSense input translated into Xbox-style controls.
However, the software remains experimental. Online multiplayer is currently unsupported, some games fail to launch, and compatibility varies considerably.
Playden also requires an already-jailbroken PS5 and elevated system access. Its developer warns that Steam authentication tokens are stored without encryption and that Cloud saves may be affected by software bugs.
The project is unaffiliated with Sony or Valve and does not provide a jailbreak itself.
