PS5SX3 Project Aims to Bring Classic PS3 Menu to PS5

A new unofficial PlayStation 5 project known as PS5SX3 is reportedly in development, aiming to recreate the PlayStation 3's iconic XrossMediaBar interface on Sony's latest console.

The project is said to focus on restoring the familiar PS3 menu design, including its horizontal navigation, vertically arranged options, classic icons, and animated wave backgrounds.

The XrossMediaBar, commonly known as XMB, became one of the PlayStation 3's most recognizable features. It allowed users to navigate between games, music, photos, and system settings through a simple cross-shaped menu layout.

Sony also used the interface on the PlayStation Portable, making it a familiar part of the PlayStation experience for an entire generation of players.

According to the reported project details, PS5SX3 aims to reproduce the appearance and navigation of the original interface rather than introduce an official replacement for the PS5 home screen.

The development comes amid growing interest in unofficial PlayStation software projects, including efforts to run older console games on newer hardware.

One such project is PS5SX2, developed by Swordpdf, which brings the PCSX2 PlayStation 2 emulator to jailbroken PS5 consoles.

However, PS5SX3 remains separate from these emulation efforts, and recreating the PS3 interface does not automatically provide compatibility with PlayStation 3 games.

The project is also not affiliated with Sony, and there is currently no verified public release date or confirmed list of supported features.

If development progresses, PS5SX3 could offer enthusiasts a nostalgic way to experience the classic PS3 interface on modern PlayStation hardware.
